Oakland University Handshake Program

Oakland University has partnered with Handshake, a modern career development platform. Every student at Oakland University should take advantage of the Handshake program.

With Handshake you can:

  • Create a profile for employers to view
  • Browse and apply for career related jobs and internships
  • Learn more about Career Services events
  • Apply and attend on-campus interviews

To create student account:

  • Go to oakland.joinhandshake.com
  • Select “Sign up for an Account” underneath the Handshake logo
  • Click on “Student/Alumni”
  • Select “Try My .edu Email First”, we may have already created an account for you!
  • If your Oakland email address allows you to login, you’re all set up!

If your OU credentials don’t allow you to login, select “I’m a Student or Alumni” then, select “Register a New Account” and fill in your credentials.

To upload a document (resume, cover letter, etc):

  • Login to your Handshake account
  • Click “View your Profile” in the left navigation bar
  • Click on the “Documents” tab at the top of the page
  • Select the “New Document” tab at the top of the page
  • Fill in the information about your document (name document, document type, public option, and description) and click “Choose File” to locate the document on your device
  • Select “Create Document”

When it comes to certifications, it is highly recommended that you include the following for every certification you hold:

  • Certification name (BLS, ACLS, PALS, TNCC, etc.)
  • Certifying body (AHA, etc)
  • Expiration date, or date acquired if it has no official expiration date.
